Improve your worst piece.

After the opening, ask yourself:

“Which of my pieces is doing the least?”

Then find a useful square for it.

A knight on the edge? Move it toward the center.

A bishop blocked by your own pawns? Open a diagonal.

A rook on a closed file? Move it to an open or semi-open file.

“What is my opponent threatening?”

Before making your move, pause and ask:

What did their last move attack?

Is any of my pieces undefended or under attack?

Are they threatening checkmate, a capture, or a tactic?

Can I stop their threat while improving my position?

A simple habit is: “Checks, captures, threats.”
